midnightとタイトルにつくというのに、最初に思い出すのは、午後の日のまだ高い時間、京都、北山通り賀茂川に掛かった橋を渡りながら、ガールフレンドとこの曲について話をした場面だ。ひょっとしたらオレは彼女にくっだらねぇ能書きをご披露申し上げていたかもしれない。真夏ではなかったけれど、ほんの少しばかり汗ばむ感じだったような気がしている。橋の上にたたずんで少しだけ涼んでから、西詰のスカしたカッフェーに入った気がする。で、そこの飲み物やたら高かったんだよなぁ。まぁ、それはいいや。そういうのが流行った頃だったし。北山通り、ブイブイいってた頃だったし。
ネタに上がってたのは、勿論プレリュードのCＭであった。彼女はゆったりまったり落ち着いた曲想が良いと言ってたような気がする。オレは当時基本的に待ったりした曲は好みではなかったけれど、この曲に関しては全く同意だった。
なんか彼女とは一緒に京都中歩き回ったような気がする。今思い出すと。嵐山から、北白川～東山～山科～伏見まで。だけど、もうほとんど何を話したかは忘れてしまっている。こうして不意に断片だけがぽわっと浮かんでくる程度だ。

Even though the title says midnight, the first thing that comes to mind is a scene in the afternoon when I was talking about this song with my girlfriend while crossing the bridge over the Kamogawa River on Kitayama Street in Kyoto. I might have been showing off to her some of her writings, which are worthless to her. It wasn't the middle of summer, but I think it was a little sweaty. After standing on the bridge and cooling off for a while in the river breeze, we went into a cool cafe in the west corner. And the drinks there were very expensive. Well, that's fine. That was back when that kind of thing was popular. It was around the time when Kitayama Street was booming.
The topic that came up was, of course, the Prelude commercial. I think she said that she liked the relaxed and calm songs. At the time, I didn't really like songs like ``She Waited'', but she completely agreed with me about this song.
I feel like I walked around Kyoto with her. When I remember it now. From Arashiyama to Kitashirakawa - Higashiyama - Yamashina - Fushimi. However, I have already forgotten most of what we talked about. In this way, only fragments suddenly come to mind.

NT0035,0036 Prelude~'Round Midnight~夜を巡る 1
今回から「東京モーターショー」ではなく「ジャパンモビリティ―ショー」というのだそうだ。まぁ、時代の流れだな。
思えば、クルマとか単車に興味を持ってから、「モーターショー」、どんなすげぇのが出てくるのか楽しみにしていたものだが、この何回か、展示物、何かしょぼいというか、実際入場者数も漸減しているそうで。特に世界の中でも特に日本経済は調子が悪く、世界中が注目する市場としては海を渡った中国に移ってしまい、何とも淋しい事なんだが。
重い、SUV。しかもBEV。使い勝手とか何とか、確かに売れているのはSUVらしいが、夢を見せてくれると言えば、突き抜けていくような走りを予感させてくれる奴で、スポーツカーなんですよ、本筋は。重く大きなBEVなど、存在自体矛盾している。BEVの意義と重く大きいというところが、これが何とも。
本気の本気で地球温暖化を止めようというなら、直ちに一切の文明を放棄しなくてはいけないレベルになってしまっているように思う。自動車どころか、ITや高度医療に至るまでだ。動力がガソリンだろうが電気だろうが、大きいクルマに乗る限り環境負荷は同じで、敢えて少しでもましなものにするというのならば、大きくとも日本の軽自動車規格とか、インドのメーカー、タタが作るような小さなものに小さなバッテリーを積んで、都市のごく限られた範囲のみを行き来する、屋根とタイヤが４つ着いた自転車、のつもりの使用用途に限定すれば、或いは効果があるのかもしれない。
もうひとつ、最近のクルマとかバイクの現象としては「昔の名前で出ています」。ホンダの「プレリュード」。見るからにBEV。べつにいいんだ、それは。時代だし。
５世代まであったんだよね、プレリュードって。まぁ、どんなクルマだったかなんて言うのは、能書き垂れたページはいっぱいある事だし省くが、一番好きだったのは、ちょっと他のとは毛色が違った４代目。BB1。1991年9月デビューとのことだから、バブル中期から後期のこと。アイルトン・セナ、当時のホンダ製品のいろんな車種のCMにでていたが、これにも出ていたんじゃなかったかな？ ちがうかな？
まぁいいや。セナが出演していたCMよりも、「’round midnight」をBGMにつかったCMの方が印象的だった。
いろいろ勘違いしていて、ずっとチェット・ベーカーのボーカルとばかり思っていた。しかし、少なくともネットで探したところで、チェット・ベーカーのトランペットによる「’round midnight」はあっても、ボーカルのそれはないようである。「My funny valentine」あたりと勘違いしたんだろうか？
件のCMで使われていたのは、サニー・ウィルキンソンによるボーカルのもの。寧ろ、オレが記憶していたもので言えば、スティングによるものがイメージに近かった。
ボーカル無しマイルス・デイヴィスのトランペットのものを高校生の時に聴いたのが最初だった。割とダウナーな曲想がオレ的にはしっくりくるタイミングというのが確実にあって。今聴くと、サニー・ウィルキンソンのものは、まぁまぁよし、という感じ。悪くはない。ただちょっと甘ったるいかな、という感じはする。

The commercial in question featured vocals by Sunny Wilkinson. In fact, from what I remember, the one by Sting was closer to what I imagined.
I first heard Miles Davis' trumpet version without vocals when I was in high school. There was definitely a timing where the idea of a relatively downer song felt right to me. When I listen to it now, I feel like Sonny Wilkinson's stuff is just okay. Not bad. I just feel like it's a little too sweet.

「罪の声」感想
オレ的には、京都の曽根さんというと、ジェトロにおられて長くアメリカにおられ、確かマイク・ペンス氏とも知己があったと思う大学の美術部の先輩で、阿久津というと、これは前に書いたな、栃木出身の若い時はGPｚ250Ｒに乗ってた、予備校の寮が同じだったヤツ。
と、そんなことはどうでもよく、NETFLIXで「罪の声」の配信が今月末までということなので、感想を書き留めておく。書き出してみたら、本当に箇条書きみたいになってしまった。
あくまで、グリコ森永事件を下敷きにしたフィクションでエンターテインメントであるから、これが真実などと勘違いしてはいけない。
1984年というと、高校3年生、東京方面の大学への進学を望んでいたオレにとっては、何か大騒ぎになってるなという認識と、大津ですんでのところで警察が犯人に逃げられた報道に、何しとんがよ、と、その時だけ軽く思ってあと長い間忘れていた、その程度なのである、件の事件については。
そうか、詰まる所、あの時声を使われた子供はどうしているのか？ 実際に普通に生きているならそれでよし、この映画のように、その後の人生が悲惨なものになっていたのだとすればそれだけが問題、大問題なんだよな、今となっては。
警察とマスコミの問題を抽出したら、今の時代にも通用する問題にはなるのかもしれないが、あの事件はひたすらこの2者のメンツをつぶしたことに終始した事件だったような気がする。
今の時代にこれをやったなら、犯人が逃げおおせたとしたら、しかし、捜査フィールドは寧ろ攻殻機動隊みたいな世界になっているかもしれない。想像したら、笑い男を思い出してしまった。
あと、桜木健一氏が、元「刑事君」で「一直線な柔道」教室の師範として出演しているのは、制作者の遊びだったんだろうか？
